Woollen Jewels
Quirky and nostalgic
felted jewellery by Edinburgh based Lynsey Walters is on sale at Concrete
Wardrobe this June for their monthly Maker of the Month exhibition.
Walters
specialises in jewellery and hair accessories made from a mixture of hand and
industrial felted Scottish wool. Her style is inspired by her vintage collections and
a quirky sense of humour. The jewellery is based loosely on an imaginary garden
crossed with a delicious haberdashery shop. The work is strongly coloured and
has a delightfully nostalgic charm.
An ECA and
RCA graduate, Walters runs her studio from her home in Portobello, Edinburgh,
and sells internationally to some of the coolest shops around the globe,
including Concrete Wardrobe.
Inspired by
the detailed everyday objects of home life, and with a natural eye for balance
and harmony, even Walters’ kitchen cupboard looks like a still life in its own
right; a perfectly executed display of 1950’s containers and packaging. A
collector of all things vintage, detailed and shiny, Walters’ reflects these
magpie tendencies in her work. The new range of jewellery includes necklaces and
brooches, featuring birds on felt branches, secreting sparkly jewels in the
form of buttons and shiny beads.
Of her
exhibition at Concrete Wardrobe, Walters commented, “Having exhibited
internationally, it’s great to be able to exhibit in my home city of Edinburgh.
Concrete Wardrobe reflects the ethos of my work perfectly.”
Fiona
McIntosh, Co-owner of Concrete Wardrobe added, “Walters uses wool, the most traditional
of Scottish fibres, to create delightfully intricate and imaginative modern pieces.
All beautifully made and perfectly priced.”
Lynsey Walters
will be on display at Concrete Wardrobe from 1st to 30th
June 2013.
Concrete Wardrobe is open Monday to Saturday 11am to
7pm. (Sunday 12 - 5pm.)
