the interview is at 40.06.

New work just in by Aberdeen based creation duo Freak Carousel. The pair create handmade resin jewellery and accessories with a punky edge. Felt skull brooches, leopard printed hearts in bright colours and glittery Scottie dogs are a few of my favourites.

This month there are a whole host of new scarf designs at Concrete Wardrobe, in fabric combinations I never knew existed. Triple structured with reflective yarn, silk jersey, fringed wool voile, and my personal favourite; wool lycra buttoned mufflers. An outdoorsy take on the upcoming collar trend. Wearable for us in the northern hemisphere whos neckwear needs also to keep our necks warm.

This is a wee preview of the new whisky glasses designed by James Donald, co-owner of Concrete Wardrobe, which will be appearing this November as this months Maker of the Month. Also featured in this regular slot will be the wearable collections of new and exclusive silk screened pieces by Concrete Wardrobes other co-owner Fiona McIntosh under her label "Tessuti".

Going under his weave label "PickOne" this glass collection has been engraved by Dundee based company "White & Sharp Glass Engravers," with each piece having been designed using i-phone apps and taken from original drawings made while on research trips to the Uists and the Shetland Islands before being translated in glass. This process has also been used to translate designs into digitally printed scarves, which are also available exclusively in the UK at Concrete Wardrobe. Each glass comes ready packaged in a handsome presentation box, making it an ideal Christmas gift!

These pieces will be featured in the Concrete Wardrobe window display along side new treble cloth structured hand woven scarves made from linen, lambswool and reflective yarns which shimmer in the fading light. AMAZING!

Both Fiona and James will also be promoting this and other works at the Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show next week along side 23 other leading Scottish based crafts folk with Edinburgh based Craftscotland.

This is a very exciting departure and one which we are very happy to promote as part of our Maker of the Month series.

Printed and Woven
This November Concrete Wardrobe showcases the work of two established Edinburgh textile designer makers. Fiona McIntosh, aka. Tessuti and James Donald, of Pickone.
The co-owners of Concrete Wardrobe will be debuting work simultaneously in Edinburgh at Concrete Wardrobe, and the US, at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and Design Craft Show. Tessuti introduce their new A/W colour range; ochre, terracotta, forest green and charcoal, and a new scarf, the Silk Slinky, a hand dyed and hand printed accessory using luxurious silk jersey. McIntosh describes the exhibition at Concrete Wardrobe as “an ideal opportunity to test the water with new design ideas and gain invaluable feedback from customers.” The Tessuti label continues to be inspired by the iconic and vibrant patterns of the 1950’s and 60’s.

Since the acquisition of a Creative Development Award 18 months ago, Pickone has been developing work and expanding the Pickone label. It now includes decorative ceramics, stationery and badge pieces, alongside a new range of distinctive hand woven lambswool and linen treble structured scarves.

Donald’s inspiration stems from a road trip around the Uists and Shetland, and the evocative dawn landscapes of these magical islands. He has also been experimenting with modern technologies where possible, including iPhone apps. A method he terms ‘Craft Hacking’. Donald enthuses, “I am really excited to see these collections being launched after what feels like an eternity in development. None of this would have happened without the help of the award.”

The Tessuti and Pickone collections will be on sale at Concrete Wardrobe from 1st to 30th November 2011.

Each of these incredible talented artists use the beautiful and versitle Hebridean fabric, Harris Tweed in completely different ways, each complimenting the other.

It's fantastic to have Roobedo being represented by Concrete Wardrobe again as we love having these functional pieces as part of our collection.

Please feel free to pass this information on to all interested parties.

New collections are being added to all the time so it is always an idea to pop in on a regular, irregular basis!
