New work in Concrete Wardrobe this week is by Edinburgh based ceramicist Sandra Ogg. Trading under the name Circle Ceramics, Sandra produces handmade wall hangings, decorations, tea-light holders and functional vessels, from her studio at Coburg House.
She takes inspiration from childhood memories, and enjoys adding a touch of humour to her work. These framed ceramic tiles (£50 each) would look great in any room.

Our July Makers of the Month, Lara Scobie and Joanne Garner, have a beautiful display here at Concrete Wardrobe. The cool, clean colours of Lara's bone china ceramics feel and look amazing on a white or neutral surface. The perfect coaster for your summer gin and tonic. The delicate looking and very wearable jewellery by Joanne looks great with or without a tan. Come in and have a browse!

Tweed in a New Light
The tweed bags,
accessories and home wares by Edinburgh based designer/maker Katherine Emtage
are on display this autumn for our September Maker of the Month exhibition.
Working in
Harris and other Scottish tweeds, Emtage produces design led bags and
accessories, which use traditional tweed in new and innovative ways. With a
rich jewel toned palette including mustard, chartreuse, poppy and magenta,
Emtage specialises in quilting, ruching, pin-tucking and colour blocking the
tweed, among other techniques, to create interesting and unusual pieces that
are contemporary, with a timeless feel.
Emtage is
debuting new work at her Maker of the Month exhibition, including tweed places
to keep your technology, and introducing her new colours, plum and peacock.
The bags are
both beautiful and durable. They have a three-layer construction, with an
interlining for added durability. Natural materials are used wherever possible.
Evening bags are lined in silk taffeta, day bags in bespoke hand printed cotton
hemp. Her current collection includes day bags, evening bags, coin purses,
technology solutions, corsages and tea cosies.
Of her
exhibition at Concrete Wardrobe, Emtage commented, “It’s a great opportunity to
showcase my collection, and trial new designs. When you see all the colours
together it’s like a treasure trove of precious jewels.”
Fiona
McIntosh, co-owner of Concrete Wardrobe added, “Emtage has a loyal customer
base at Concrete Wardrobe who appreciate the quality and beauty of her work.
Her new range shows that tweed has a place very much in the 21st
century.”
Concrete
Wardrobe continues to support local and Scottish trained designer makers as
Scotland’s foremost independent retailer of design led craft.
Katherine
Emtage will be on display at Concrete Wardrobe from 1st to 30th
September 2013.
Concrete Wardrobe is open Monday to Saturday 11am to
7pm. (Sunday 12 - 5pm.)
Concrete Wardrobe 50a Broughton Street, Edinburgh EH1
